Planting Daffodils for Spring Color

If you want to have the beauty of daffodils in your garden during the spring you need to plan ahead. You want to plant them in the fall in order for them to have enough time to grow from the bulbs. Take your time with the planting process though to ensure you get terrific results. You don’t want to be disappointed when springtime rolls around.

You need to get the ground ready for your planting before you do anything else. Think about where at home would be the perfect location for them. Daffodils thrive in full sunlight but it is also fine if you have a bit of shade in that area as well. Try to find a place that you will be able to see these flowers when you go in and out of your home. Seeing them will brighten your day and lift your mood.

It is best to work with bulbs when you have the soil ready to work with. You can order them online to be delivered to your home if you aren’t able to get a good selection of them locally. Place them about 6 inches apart so that they have enough room to grow. Otherwise you can end up with them not growing as they should for a lack of space.

Make sure you give your daffodils enough water to grow. This is especially important after you plant them. A couple of inches of mulch will help them to get the nutrients they need from the soil and to maintain the water you give them. It will also help reduce problems with weeds growing and that is going to save you time in the long run.

Daffodils are a lovely addition to any garden. This is a great way to enjoy the spring time and to add some vibrant colors to your landscaping. The early efforts you put into making sure they bloom to their full potential will be well worth it when you see them coming up. The good news is that it is very easy to continue growing daffodils year after year.

A great way to ensure that they will come back next year is to add more fertilizer after the daffodils have blossomed and died. When they remaining foliage is brown you will want to do so. This is going to give the soil additional nutrients for it to draw from. You will also want to give more fertilizer at the start of the following growth season in order to ensure you have lovely spring time daffodils year after year. After the first time you have them you won’t want to experience this time of year without them.
